OFFERING A HOLDING AND FACILITATING ENVIRONMENT

OFFERING A HOLDING AND FACILITATING ENVIRONMENT
A COURSE TOWARDS COMPLEXITY-ORIENTED LEARNING IN HEALTH
Offering a holding and facilitating environment
This course prepares students for an under-current of relations, border crossing, and (caring) ethics. It nurtures (collective) sensemaking, empathy, and intuitive (expert) reasoning. It is done by offering a trusted, resilient learning space that allows for not-knowing and experimenting.

OFFERING A HOLDING AND FACILITATING ENVIRONMENT

Why is it needed?

Dealing with complexity is challenging and the process of becoming is never finished. The environment and the learner stay highly dependent.

It means that we need to balance between offering a safe environment and the incentive to endure the complexity and to develop further as an (always relative) autonomous reflective learner.

This support system is introduced by Winnicot as a holding and facilitating environment in the context of health care (Moeskop 2020).

How to use the course?

The course is EQF referenced with 1 to 2 ECTS.

The target groups are health educators and health curriculum developers who update or develop health curricula.

The (content of the) course can be transferred into formal and non-formal health education, inside and outside higher education structures.
